Coast Out Festival – Todd Buttery

Comments (0) Interviews

What’s the aim of CoastOut? CoastOut is a platform for people from all walks of life to come together for a fabulous and fun weekend on the Coffs Coast …

to invite visitors to the region who may not usually come to our beautiful area, giving them a chance to take in our breathtaking scenery, sample our cuisine and culture and at the same time, providing our local community with a jam packed celebration of colour, movement and entertainment from here and around the nation!

CoastOut has also been a catalyst for social change on the Coffs Coast – a safe space where people can relax, enjoy themselves and have some fun along the way.

When will the festival be held this year?

The CoastOut Unreal (Estate) Surf Comp kicks off Friday 26October (morning), with the Zinc (Clinic) Welcome Cocktail Party that night at Park Beach Reserve, through to Monday 29 October, when the 25 Years of Kylie exhibition closes at Coffs Central.

What are some of the key events on the festival’s weekend program?

It is an honour to have the 25 Years of Kylie exhibition at this year’s festival. Over 1,000 pieces of memorabilia spanning the entire 25 years of Kylie Minogue’s career is a pretty special collection, and we’re proud to have it with us this year at Coffs Central shopping centre.

The CoastOut Unreal Surf Comp is now over 2 days, due to the large number of last minute entrants last year.

Drag Out the Dolphins is set to be another brilliant show on the Saturday at the Pet Porpoise Pool, and the CoastOut Fair Day on Sunday 28October is also going to be jam packed full of fun, this year including a Pet Parade and Cake Competition! All are welcome to participate.

We are blessed to have some of the country’s best performers with us this year, with the return of Bob Downe and introducing to the Coffs Coast the amazing cabaret singer and actor, Paul Capsis! It will be great to see local stage and screen star Nick Hardcastle host our Welcome Cocktail Party and also see live Wayne Rogers, who wowed the crowds in Australia’s Got Talent last year.

Another highlight will be two times Aria award winner Monique Brumby on the CoastOut main stage, as well as Radio INK, who have been touring with Duran Duran and Aqua.

This is the third year the festival has been held on the beautiful Coffs Coast. What has been some of the feedback you’ve received from previous years?

It’s the feedback that has taken us into the 3rd year! Plus of course, the commitment and support for new events from the Coffs Harbour City Council, and our amazing sponsors.

Being awarded the Coffs Coast ‘Community Event of the Year’ on Australia Day is also one of the biggest highlights for us and was really quite overwhelming and humbling.

Some other feedback has been from festival patrons:

“35 years of events and festivals – it was seriously one of the best weekends of a lifetime. I’ve been telling/selling it to the UK and the United States since I got back.” Russ M.

“It was absolutely fantastic, and we’ll be racing back next year! It was brilliant from beginning to end. We met so many lovely people and ADORED every last second of it.” Kath and Kez.
