Coffs Harbour is set to become a guitar mecca, with the launch of the Coffs Harbour Guitar Festival from June 5 – 7. Presented by the Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium in collaboration with the Coffs Harbour Music Society and Southern Cross University, the festival will feature three international soloists in concerts and workshops throughout the weekend.
Who is coming?
The dashing young Swedish classical guitarist Johannes Moller has captivated audiences throughout the world with charismatic and soulful performances and is also considered by many to be the most prestigious guitar composer in the world. His solo performance is being co-presented by the Music Society as the first concert in their subscription series and will feature his own works, as well as a selection of well known classical pieces.
Adam Miller is an extraordinary Australian Jazz, Blues and improvisational guitarist who has made his mark internationally and performed with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, Les Paul, Martin Taylor and many more.
Matthew Marshall is considered one of New Zealand’s finest guitarists, specialising in experimental, improvisational and classical guitar. He is currently Professor of Music at Southern Cross University in Lismore and will be directing the Festival Guitar Orchestra, made up of students and guitarists from across the region, as well as conducting an experimental workshop and concerts.
Workshops by each soloist will be offered to all guitar lovers, giving students insight and inspiration in all areas of guitar playing. Solo concerts given by each artist will be followed by a Grand Festival Concert featuring the guitar orchestra, the soloists, Conservatorium tutors and the Conservatorium’s Academy, rounded off by a fun jam session on Sunday. A full calendar can be viewed on the Conservatorium’s website.
