Fiji is blessed with 333 tropical islands and with a flight time of 3½ hours from Brisbane, it’s no wonder it’s one the most popular Pacific Island holidays for Australian families and couples looking for a tropical paradise.
Choose from a diverse range of accommodation, from exclusive 5 star resorts through to hostels or if budget is not an issue, then book an entire island just for yourself. Fiji has somewhere to suit everyone.
As many readers know, I delicately balance the needs of a family holiday versus an adult getaway. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Fiji could satisfy both, with family friendly resorts on the Coral Coast, action packed adventures available in the Mamanuca Island and exclusive couple-only resorts with luxurious overwater Bures that remind me of the more expensive options of Tahiti and the Maldives.
Further off the beaten track there is still some traditional culture to be found, but rarely are those travelling to Fiji searching for it. Travellers are hypnotised by the white sandy beaches, swaying coconut trees, pristine oceans and coral reefs waiting to be explored. It really is a water activity mecca: snorkel, dive, surf or kayak the pristine oceans, white-water raft the clear and clean waterways, cruise the ocean around the mainland and outer Fiji Islands or if you need a break from the water, trek through the rainforests or visit the welcoming villages and experience sustainable living with a unique culture and history.
If you need extra incentive to visit, then ask someone about the Fijian hospitality. The Fijian people are welcoming, affectionate and sincere. They don’t operate on the same time schedule that the city dwellers do and as a result, travellers find themselves slipping into ”Fijian time” quickly upon arrival. Afterall, it is the Fijian way!
Fiji is an ideal winter holiday, with warm, dry sunny days throughout May to September. Drop in to see the team at Quadrant Australia in Vernon St, Coffs Harbour to find out about the latest deals.
