We had such a huge response to last month’s cover photo of jesse emmanuel, we thought we’d introduce you to the creative geniuses behind the lens. meet mike & amy green…
What inspired you to make photography your profession?
We have always loved photography, and one day we literally just decided that we would try our luck at professional photography. At first we were really bad; however, it didn’t take long to get things sorted and discover a brand that we love and that our clients love also.
> Tell us about your business here on the Coffs Coast.
Mike and Amy Photographers is a boutique wedding photography studio that is based in Coffs Harbour and services areas as far north as Brisbane, as south as Sydney and as far west as Tamworth. We also love to capture newborns, gorgeous expectant mums and cute little families. Mike and I are a husband and wife team of photographers. We shoot weddings together and independently.
We are both natural light photographers and use little to no artificial lighting in our images. We believe that well chosen natural light makes for beautiful images that simply cannot be recreated with the use of artificial lighting.
> You shoot a variety of subjects – what’s your favourite thing to photograph?
We both love to photograph weddings – they are probably our favourite form of photography. However, we also love newborn, maternity and family photos. What we love to do is capture the special moments in people’s lives in such a way that they will love and cherish them for years to come.
> What are you favourite types of weddings?
I personally adore vintage themed weddings; these seemed to be really popular this wedding season, and we have had a fantastic time shooting them. Mike and I also love farm and country weddings. Having said that, variety is the spice of life, so all weddings are a pleasure for us to be a part of.
> Describe your typical day …
As our job is so diverse, no day is ever the same. But if we could say what we would like our ideal day to be, it would include, gym in morning, swim at the beach, breakfast at a café, a nap, editing for Mike, bookwork for me, lunch and then a shoot or more editing in the afternoon. We always like to finish our day with a walk through our neighbourhood.
> What motivates you?
Each wedding or shoot we do is unique and comes with its own set of challenges. With weddings in particular, it’s the challenge of shooting a wedding and achieving a great result –that is what motivates us.
A motivating factor is also to see how happy clients are when they see their images on our blog for the first time.
> Your images, particularly your wedding images, stand out as different and unique. What inspires you to capture your weddings in this way?
We try and incorporate not only a photo journalistic approach to our weddings, but also a fashion aspect as well.
When we photograph a wedding, we want our brides to look like they are from a magazine; but at the same time, we also love to capture the emotion that is shared and expressed on the wedding day.
> You were the creative geniuses behind our last month’s cover image of Jesse Emmanuel. What was it like working with her?
We had a great time doing the promo shoot for Jesse Emmanuel – she is an amazingly talented girl and is full of life. It was awesome to be able to capture such a fabulous image for her. We look forward to working with her in the future.
> What have been some of the stand out moments in your careers so far?
The most stand out moment so far in our career was when we re-branded as Mike and Amy Photographers in May of last year. Since our rebranding, it has been exciting to see our images published in bridal magazines such as North Coast Weddings magazines and to be featured on many different inspirational blogs.
Since our rebranding, we have also taken more than 50 wedding bookings, along with numerous other shoots. It is also awesome to see the support of our clients and members of the community.
The online interest in our work is also exciting to watch grow. We recently received more than 600 hits to our blog in just one day, now making it a total of more than 30,000 hits to our blog since starting it in May last year – with this number climbing every day.
> How long have you lived on the Coffs Coast, and what do you love about the area?
I have lived on the Coffs Coast all my life. Mike moved to the Coffs Coast when we were married in 2006. We have called Coffs Harbour home since.
We love the lifestyle that the Coffs Coast offers – the beaches, cafés and recreational areas make Coffs Coast an ideal place to call home. We also love that it is situated nearly half way between Brisbane and Sydney.
> What are you looking forward to in 2011?
We are really looking forward to being part of all our gorgeous brides’ weddings in 2011. We also have some exciting new launches within our business over this coming year that we look forward to – but we can’t say much more than this!
> Where can we see some of your work?
Our work can be followed on our Facebook fan page. We update our fan page regularly with blog posts and other images. We also have an active blog which is updated a couple of times a week; it is attached to our website at: www.mikeandamy.com.au
Our work is also published along with editorials of some of our brides and grooms in the North Coast Weddings magazine.
> Thank you Mike and Amy.
