The one-day pop culture enthusiasts strike again!  Two years ago, the region’s first one day pop culture enthusiast festival launched in Coffs Harbour. The Nexus Con (originally known as Level UP!) has had a great response from the community.

It is a fun, affordable and inclusive day. It has the friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere that anime and comic conventions are known for. 1,500 people have attended so far. Will you join us in 2017?

Everyone is welcome at the Nexus Con being held at the Coffs Harbour Showground on Saturday 29 July (10am ‘til 5pm). Tickets are $15 from the Mid Coast Communities website

( Discounted kids’ and families’ tickets are available. This event is unique in our region, and our bus can pick up travellers who want to attend from Taree, Port Macquarie and Kempsey – you will find information about this on the tickets page.

Nexus Con is the brainchild of a group of young people known as Nexus HQ, who with the support of Mid Coast Communities and other local youth services, wanted to bring like-minded people together so they could connect with each other and share their interest in all things pop culture.

Once the gates open, young people and families can enjoy a range of activities, including an adults Cosplay competition, a children’s costume parade, video game tournaments, tabletop gaming, zombie extraction runs, guest panels, Quidditch and Live Action Role Play (LARP).

We are excited to be hosting international guest Cosplay duo Jin (behindinfinity) and Miguel (merkymerx) from the Philippines this year. There will also be authors and professional gamers and over 30 stalls to check out, including games sellers, collectables, food and face painting.

If you are interested in activities like Cosplay, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Video Games of all genres, Table Top, D&D, Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Anime, Manga, LARP, Fan Fiction – this is the event for you!

Feedback from past attendees is that this is a great way to bring everyone together, with a great atmosphere. Attendees love being part of a big gathering of people who share similar interests. People enjoy the activities, the competitions, the stalls and meeting new people.

• “Well, I enjoyed the fact that so many people joined in, and the cosplay was amazing! Also, the Yu-Gi-Oh tournament was fun! I love duelling new people.”

• “Thank you for hosting this event! It made so many people happy, and I’m sure a great number of people were amazed to find out just how many like-minded people there are, and there’s always a place to fit in.”

Nexus HQ and Mid Coast Communities would like to thank all the generous sponsors, including Coffs Harbour City Council, headspace, Coffs Coast Autism and other organisations and local businesses for helping to make this event a success.
