Pink Silks Trust committee member and Social media Coordinator.
The Pink Silks Trust is committed to helping make a difference in the journey of local women going through a life-changing or life-threatening illness, by keeping 90% of all their funds raised local, and committing 10% to cancer research, in the hope of a future cure or preventative measure. FOCUS caught up with Nicole Pymont, who’s been on the committee for 10 years …
What is your connection to the Coffs Coast?
I moved to Coffs Coast 17 years ago for 12 months’ work, and loved it so much I ended up staying. I personally believe it’s a great place to work and live and gives you the opportunity to have a wonderful work/life balance.
Tell us about the history of the Pink Silks Trust Committee.
The Pink Silks Trust (PST) is a registered charity and has a strong focus on assisting local women’s health organisations with much needed equipment and services, as well as contributing to national research foundations.
The main and original event, now held annually, is the Pink Silks Ladies Race Day, held at the Coffs Harbour Racing Club. Its aim is to bring families and friends together to show a collective support of all women in our community undergoing a challenging time with their illnesses.
After 11 years, the PST has raised over $750,000 for this local community.
The PST now actively runs and assists several events each year, so we can increase our message to many community demographics and increase the direct help to women in our community.
The PST Committee consists of seven hardworking and very passionate people, who give their time selflessly for the cause, to help women in our local community and create more awareness around health and wellbeing.
What do you enjoy most about being part of such an inspirational committee?
I am honoured to work with six other people with similar values around increasing awareness and funds to make a true difference in our community. Each person on the committee has a full-time job and a family, but also dedicates a lot of personal time to making this charity all it can be. Seeing the generosity of our community is absolutely amazing! Businesses and individuals that continuously want to give and help raise money at each event PST holds is inspirational in itself and motivates us as a committee to do more.
What we can expect from the 2019 Pink Silks Race Day?
Every year the community comes together and always brings such a fun atmosphere to the Pink Silks Ladies Race Day. Like most years we have some amazing merchandise and wonderful donated raffles items. The generous donations for our LIVE charity auction includes a Sydney Racing package, dinner catered by Fiasco Catering, Women’s Coffs Cup Package, Family Fun package and lots of other wonderful items.
This year we are also continuing with the all-female race fashions on the field, and hospitality packages that can be purchased through Coffs Harbour Racing Club.
Tell us about your sponsors and their contributions.
Without our generous sponsors and their contributions, we would not have the events we have, and raise the money we have, over the past 11 years.
$750,000 has been raised through a combination of the work of the PST Committee and the support of all the businesses and individuals that kindly continue to donate, sponsor and support the work we do every year.
These results are for our beneficiaries and the work they do, and this year we are supporting a variety of organisations, which include the Coffs Harbour Women’s Health Centre, Intensive Care Unit, Coffs Harbour and District Riding for Disabled Centre, Northcott Disability Services, and our research donation is to Motor Neuron Disease Australia.
We’d like to encourage any organisation/charity to contact us for future funding.
Any individuals or businesses that are interested in donating, please don’t hesitate to contact us; we are a registered charity, so we’re 100% volunteer run, 100% tax deductible and 100% local.
What plans do you have for 2019?
Our regular events have so much positive feedback that we continue these on. Upcoming is the Pink Silks Charity Golf Day held at Coffs Harbour Golf Club on Friday 11th January, and the Pinks Silks Ladies Race Day on Sunday 13th January.
We have our Pink Silks High Tea event at Latitude 30, Saturday 4th May 2019 and the Ladies and Tradies night held at the Hoey Moey on a new date, set to be Saturday 24th August 2019.
We are currently in discussions with a fabulous Coffs Coast local business in regards to a special event, hopefully to be held mid-March, but we will keep everyone posted on that.
What has been the highlight of 2018?
It’s always hard to pick one highlight, as each year at each event we are constantly amazed at the generosity of everyone. The Ladies and Tradies is always such a fun event, and the Hoey Moey is so charitable. With all of our events, this local community is so supportive and contributes so much to everything we do.
Last year we raised money for “Pinky”, the Medical ATV being used by the SES and Emergency Services for emergency retrieval of critical patients from difficult areas. This year money was raised for a piece of vital equipment for the Intensive Care Unit at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus, which is something very close to my heart. The Prismaflex is a blood dialysis machine that helps a critically ill patient get rid of toxins from their body whilst their kidneys recover.
