Meet the beautiful Heidi Brett from Vast Interior Coffs Harbour. If there are two things Heidi knows, it’s furniture and interior design. Focus had a chat to Heidi to find out about the latest trends …

Winter is Coming

Winter is coming, and it can’t come quick enough for me! I love the switch to the cooler months and the chance to indulge in some cozy textures, from warm woollen throws to faux fur cushions. So instead of turning on the heater this year, why not visit Vast and let us help you create your perfect cosy winter home!

Here are my Vast tips for taking the chill out of this winter and to enjoy those wintery days and nights; whether it’s curling up in that cozy chair reading a good book, or making a love nest and binging on Netflix, it’s time to start shopping.

Cozy Winter Throws My favourite way to take the chill out of winter (and it’s my sneaky self indulgence) is to buy a new throw for winter. So why not pamper yourself with a soft, cozy and oh so affordable throw this year, from gorgeous linens, chunky knits, faux fur, velour or even our gorgeous Indian cotton kantha throws! A lot of people confine their new throw to the bedroom, but adding them to your lounge or daybed with some additional cushions will ensure that your home exudes the visual warmth that we all crave through winter.

Cushions

A girl can never have too many cushions, and they are an easy way to add some lux-inspired, deeper coloured tones to your home, to bring in some warmth during the cooler months. Try to inject rich tones like rust, browns and mustard, or maybe some soft linens or faux fur for a bit of texture. Add these to your favourite throw to layer your textures and fabrics, to provide that extra bit of warmth and to create a welcoming cocoon on your lounge that you won’t want to leave.

Gorgeous Rugs for the Floors Those cool tiles, bare floor boards and polished concrete floors are great through the summer months for keeping us cool, but in winter they can be a bit chilly.

Adding a lovely new rug to your living areas will not only keep your feet warm, but is an easy and affordable way to change your home or office décor to reflect the change in seasons and to bring in some colour and texture in the cooler months.

We have a huge range of rugs in store, from beautiful natural jute, original Indian Dhurries in cotton and wool blends and soft viscose chenilles. If we don’t have what you’re after, we are more than happy to try and source the perfect rug for you.

The Beauty of Natural Timber Wood has an undeniable natural warmth, and adding some wooden accessories to your interior will create an inviting look this winter. Maybe a new stylish dining table, or one of our gorgeous coffee tables in our natural hardwood ranges could do the trick to add some warmth to your home this year.

Add Some Greenery Not everyone is a green thumb (certainly not me) and I love a little bit of greenery in my home, so I am a huge fan of the artificial plant. Today’s artificial greenery is so much better than my days at Copper Art (no more silk flowers) and bring on the real touch plants; you will be astounded at how amazing they look.

Light the Candles Not everyone can have a fireplace – but candles! We can all do that, and there is nothing I like better on a cold winter night then to light some candles. Candles will help create a beautiful soft, warm light and add a little bit of romance, perfect for a cozy night on the couch.

Another added bonus for candles is the fragrance they let off, which freshen up your home and are great for covering up that damp smell we all get when the house is closed up over those horrible winter days. I have to say my favourite winter scent is lemongrass – it always makes everything smell so fresh.

We have two beautiful ranges available at Vast: the Elume pillar candles and melts and Be Enlightened glass candles. Of course, keeping candles around means you need to follow a few basic safety precautions – the main one is to never leave your candle unattended.

Bring In The Light Soft lighting in winter can help to brighten your home and create an inviting feel when natural light is lacking. Floor and table lamps are perfect for your living spaces.

Mirrors I love a big mirror; it’s a timeless piece that can help warm up your home by helping to reflect light into your home in the darker months ahead. There is something special about a mirror that reflects the outdoors in and can help make a room feel warmer and much larger.

Not only will your efforts allow you to enjoy a warmer winter at home, these easy budget friendly ideas will help reduce your energy bill big time! So start shopping!

Thanks Heidi.
